Attributions and Misunderstandings

Why does your partner do the things they do?  This module is for couples that find it hard to  understand each other’s behavior.

Do you or your partner often view each other's actions in a negative light?

This e-hope intervention may be for you. This module will help you identify and re-evaluate common interactions that are perceived as negative, and develop a more fair and positive understanding for each other.

Attributions are thoughts or beliefs about a person's behavior.

So if your partner were to bring a gift home to you, what would you believe about that gift-giving?  Is the gift because the person loves you?  Or is the gift just a lame apology for another hurtful action?  Your beliefs can make your break your relationship.

Attributions can be positive or negative and accurate or inaccurate. Its the negative inaccurate attributions that often lead trouble within relationships. The research for over 25 years has shown that strong negative attributions can lead to relational dissatisfaction. This e-hope module will help you to re-evaluate the way you think about your partner, and your relationship.
