Building Intimacy through Scaling and Cleaving

Learn how to increase your intimacy using a simple model called CLEAVE and get a visual image of intimacy in your relationship using a tool called scaling.  You can either use the worksheets or practice scaling in your own home.  Spend at least a week working on the CLEAVE intervention between beginning and ending this module.

This intervention is for couples who want to get closer and gain more intimacy in their relationship, and the intervention accomplishes that through the six-part acronym of CLEAVE and the scaling self-assessment.

CLEAVE is:

Changing actions to positive

Loving Romance

Employing a calendar

Adjusting intimacy elsewhere

Valuing statements

Enjoying yourselves sexually

In the book of Genesis, God tells us that a man is to leave his father and mother, and to cleave to his wife. This means to attach to, and become one with, your partner.  Jesus desires to change the world through our unity (John 17), and thus we can trust that unity in marriage is a priority for Him. So He will be with you in this process!
