Exercise 2: Leaves on a stream

Leaves on a stream is a defusion exercise. Defusion means to step back and separate or detach from thoughts, images, and memories. We see our thoughts for what they are, nothing more or less than pictures and words. We hold them lightly instead of clutching them tightly and we allow them to guide us, but not dominate us.Put simply, we step back and watch our thinking instead of getting tangled up in it and we do not allow it to dominate us but simply guide us.
For more information about defusion, you can watch this video:

Leaves on a stream

For this exercise both of you watch the YouTube video on the left and do the leaves on a stream exercise described in the video by yourself.

Afterwards, take a sheet of paper and draw leaves on it. Then write thoughts that you encountered during the exercise on the leaves. Then share how the exercise went for you and your partner and which thoughts came up.

What was it like for you to share these thoughts with your partner?
Were there any feelings that you or your partner shared that surprised you?
